New Rough

Congratulation to Eileen and Joe Seale with their first Irish champion –

Champ Show - 26th August 2007
The Champ Show had to be moved to a different venue – St Colmcilles GAA Club Swords. This was due to the IKC
accepting a booking for a military re-enactment exhibition at Cloghran. The committee felt that collies would not be
happy with cannon-fire so we moved up the road. The new venue was a great
success.
Our judge Alan Staniland (Tashadon) did a great job and had an excellent entry of 56 collies. READ ALAN’S CRITIQUE

International Collie Conference – Killarney, August 2007
The conference was an outstanding success. In the morning a presentation
by Paul Battigan was shown. Its title was
“Trefoil – and the tail male lineage of Ireland’s
champion rough collies”. As
Paul was not in the country, the presentation was narrated by Millie Magnier. The
presentation was very well received by all who attended. Congratulations to Paul for the great
job he did!
The afternoon slot was dedicated to the art of dog listening. The speaker was Dog Listener

International Collie Conference
Delighted to
announce that the International Collie Conference is definitely going
ahead in August! For a while we
were worried that we would not have enough delegates to make it a viable
venture but happily bookings have flooded in. It’s not too late to make a
booking as there are still some places left.

January 07
New Green
Star System in Ireland
from January
2007………..
The number of green stars required
for Championship title is seven, to be gained under seven different Judges
The dog must be graded excellent,
or in the case of a puppy, very promising, to challenge for green star
Grading cards will be issued by the
Irish Kennel Club
Champions are eligible to challenge
for the green star
One green star must be won after
the dog reaches the age of 15 months.
There will be no enhancement for group wins
Points won under the old system
would be converted as follows:
Dogs having won
1 to 5 points counts as one green star
6 to 11 points counts as two green stars
12 to 18 points counts as three green stars
19 to 24 points counts as four green stars
25 to 31 points counts as five green stars
32 to 38 points counts as six green stars
Dogs having won 38 points or more
under the old system must win one green star under the new system to be
awarded the title of Champion
The title of Annual Champion in
each breed is awarded to the dog with the highest number of green stars won
in the calendar year. In the
event of a tie the award is made to the dog with the greater number of best
of breed wins
It is proposed to implement this
system from January 2007 with a review in 2009

the
anniversary year was a wonderful year. Our all breed Limit show
held in March 06 saw Liam Hodson judging for the
first time. Well done Liam. He was joined by three other experienced judges -
Fionnuala Malone from Kerry Blues and Scottish
Terriers, Clodagh Fallon from Pugs and Lyn Kilby from Rough Collies and Japanese Spitz. Please note
that there will not be a Limit show held in 2007 as the committee will be
concentrating on the forthcoming International Collie Conference.
·
In
May we held our breed Open show - judged by Joan McIntyre (Meryctin). A really good entry for an open show and the
sun shone on our venue in Cloghran. Joan is
secretary of our twin club - Ayrshire Collie - so it was nice to have her
judge for us on our anniversary year. The critique was published in the
2006 edition of Collie Chat magazine, which is free to members.
·
We
also held a Parade of
Irish Champions at the open show. Seven champions were there on the
day and it was wonderful to see them all in the ring together.
·
Our
breed champ show was
a great success on August 27th 2006. Our judge, Fern Sargeant
(Coarhabeg) had a brilliant entry of 78 collies.
The venue (The High Cross Inn, Kildare) was perfect for a breed show and the
weather was just right - warm but not too sunny. Fern's critique will be published in Collie
Chat Magazine 2007, which is free to members
